I agree with you the volume bears close watching. But I also wonder if the low volume reflects the lower day-trading activity, and does not indicate lower real investment.

Of course the whole long case is built on economic growth. If that stalls, then my goose and funds are down the toilet - again.

RtS, The bears managed to douse a pretty good rally in tech today. I guess the employment data was forgotten as the day wore on.

edit. maybe this is the explanation.

from the report.

"The Labor Department said there were issues with seasonal adjustments that may have skewed the numbers. In addition, the Oct 14 Columbus Day holiday may have had a bearing on the sharp fall in the Oct. 19 week. "
