Current conservative: pro- free trade, pro- deregulation, internationalist (for example, pro- NATO), pro- Israel.

One wonders if the merry band running the administration, with Jr. in charge are the "Buchananite" or "current" conservatives?

Argument for "current":

"pro-deregulation" - sure are that, especially wrt. protecting common investors (the SEC shenaningans) for the benefit of their buddies, and wrt. poisoning the environment etc., etc., etc., - really big on dismantling all sorts of consumer protection etc. So score YES on that one.

"internationalist (for example pro-NATO)" - internationalist in the sense that they love to meddle in foreign countries, but not in the sense that they like to truly work with other countries or international bodies - it is more like "our way, or the highway". So, I guess in the 'meddling' sense of "internationalist", especially compared to the Buchananites - score YES.

"pro-Israel" - YES, in spades.

Case AGAINST them being "current" and instead being Buchananite:

"pro-free trade" - as Carl would put it: BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! LOL! BWAHAHAHAHAA!!!! Oh yea, we saw all that with the utterly indefensible and thoroughly disgraceful rules passed wrt. steel, textiles and many other things - of course, because they saw a domestic political constituency, oh and btw., while the demos are the big offenders in the farm subsidy department, the cons are no slouches there either, LOL!

So confusing, who is "current", who "Buchananite", who "paleo", who "neo" (boy, has "neo" undergone transformations over the years, here would be a good place for one of Carl's signature laughs, but I'll limit myself to a simple LOL!). Then throw in the bible-thumping wackos and the whole "big tent" of cons resembles a provincial "big top". Of course the left wing wackos have their own convention at the other "big top" across the road.
