I won't reply to you again on this topic, because you asked to be kept out of the debate, but your viewpoint that the facts are skewed by both and that Islam is generally a peaceful religion was one I have held for two decades, until I started doing in depth research on the history of the region and the Islamic religion. Only after that research did I come around to the view that a disproportionate part of the problem stems from the Islamic religion/culture.
