o Crescent Networks Lays Off Two-Thirds of Staff

Lowell, Mass. -- Lowell-based Crescent Networks, a provider of managed services for telecommunications companies, has laid off about two-thirds of its workforce, or about 35 employees, according to published reports. Crescent Networks' technology allows service providers to offer storage, content, and application services. o Keane Inc. Likely To Cut About 150 Jobs

Boston -- Boston-based Keane Inc., a major technology consulting services firm, said on Wednesday that it will reduce its workforce in response to a difficult market environment. Brian Keane, CEO of Keane, told Dow Jones that he expected to reduce the company's workforce of 7,700 by "a couple percentage points." Kean said that there would be no large-scale layoffs at the Nasdaq-listed firm. The company expects to take a charge of about $9 million to $12 million in the current quarter related to reductions in workforce and real estate. biz.yahoo.com

o MatrixOne Cuts 15% of Workforce in Wake of Earnings

Westford, Mass. -- While the company's financial performance in its most recent quarter was an improvement over the same period last year, Westford-based MatrixOne Inc., a provider of business software, said on Wednesday that it has reduced its total workforce by about 15%, or 75 employees. MatrixOne also reported on Wednesday that its revenue for the most recent quarter was $31.1 million, compared to $24.8 million in the same quarter last year. The company had a loss of $6.1 million in the most recent quarter, compared with a loss of $11.9 million. biz.yahoo.com

o Viisage Cuts 16% of Workforce, Hiring More Sales Staff

Littleton, Mass. -- Littleton-based Viisage Technology Inc., a developer of facial recognition technology, said on Wednesday that it has cut 16% of its total workforce, or 21 employees. The company also said that it has formed two new business units -- facial recognition and secure identification. Viisage said that it plans to "significantly augment" its sales operations to support the two newly created business units. The reorganization is a response to the company's acquisition of three businesses in the past year. biz.yahoo.com
