hey Fed: productivity NOT key, capex is, consumer debt is
these guys are such hack economists
they have an amazing capability of missing the keys

greater productivity without capex and strong consumers will result in water treading for corp profits, and continued (but lower) layoffs

if Ferguson is talking about a crippled man simply surviving shark infested waters, by treading, then maybe he is right
but like the economy, this crippled man will continue to float only if he sheds some fat
as companies will be shedding jobs
but that will hurt spending and the confidence behind that spending
a vicious circle of its own (independent of US$ cycle)
