Because we're keeping the peace in the Middle East. As many have pointed out, we spend a massive amount of money and manpower doing so. As I keep pointing out, we do it, not just for ourselves, but for our trading parners, the Europeans and the Japanese, who have the luxury of not having to spend their GDP on war because the Americans do it.

And yes, it's not fair to us, but as the blogger said, we do it because we are Americans.

Maybe someday somebody else will do it, and if that country is as fair (not perfect, but good) and as competent as we are, then it will be our time to step aside.
