Now that is a question interesting, and important, to explore. And does organized religion where a "chosen" people are saved and others not, in and of itself create the enviroment of war and of making others into "others"?

it appears to me a kind of duality of thought and practice in islam...

when you read some of the meccan and medinan surahs you will see examples of peacemaking and jihad within.

the subsequent verses tend to be the more violent, and my reading of critiques of mohammedism indicates that he cites it was god who inspired it (the shift)....others believe it was only because he became empowered and stronger thus moved from a position of weakness to that of jihad.

basically i believe there are two islams extant...the war is just as much between the 2 factions as it is against the "infidels"..

Does Islam foster the development terrorism and intolerance? Or are those already inclined to terrorism and intolerance drawn to Islam? Or is the relationship symbiotic?

wrt the islam that promotes jihad...i would say all of the above.
