Because they are short-sighted. They want to believe that as long as they behave themselves, nothing bad will happen to them, and maybe they're right.

But if we stop keeping the peace, then somebody else will have to, and whoever that is, will be a target.

Your view of the world must be that every nation except the US and Israel is blatantly stupid.

No, I don't think of nations as being smart or stupid. Human beings are smart or stupid. It's not fair to you or to many others who oppose war in Iraq to say that the policies of one president reflect on the intelligence of our nation.

I am not reflexively a supporter of Israel. I think the settlements were a bad idea, and I think Sharon is too brutal, but I do think highly of the people of Israel, in general.

I don't know any Palestinians, but I am sure that if I knew any personally, I would think well of most of them.
