Although you may be making an additional point unrelated to the rest of your post. I wouldn't say it's unrelated. I believe there's been a shift over the decades where there was more involvement by the people at the local level. In most States, the people have increasingly allowed the representatives more...let's call it discretion. Term limits is a symptom, the people have decided that they aren't competent to remove someone from office, so they prefer to establish a law to do it for them. States such as California and Oregon [referring to assisted suicide] have increasingly taken important issues to the voters. That's still within the framework of a Democratic Republic. jttmab
