John Doody of Gold Stock Analyst hates it when Goldcorp does that, claiming that he wants to own a gold producer, not a gold speculator. But I don't see that it has much downside in this environment, compared to the potential gain. IBM and others get all kinds of credit for buying their own shares when they are grossly overpriced. Investing in your own product when it is near multi-decade lows seems like an excellent policy to me. At the worst, they will have to sell the gold for a few bucks less in the future, since gold, unlike stock, cannot go to zero. /BSG
