Geode, I have abandoned any illusion that I could single-handedly improve the tenor of the discussions. The reason the thread has become more civil is that people who disagree with Will don't post there anymore, so he no longer has anyone to accuse of being dishonest. "Besides, just because someone addresses a post to you doesn't mean you can't ignore it if you find it annoying or offensive or just generally stupid." My concern is not offensive or stupid posts. It's that there seems to be no meaningful disagreement anymore. Besides, what's the point of spending time on a board if you're going to ignore the major participants?
