I have a friend who was an imformations systems officer on W.German deisle Subs,he is now with Reuters,he also spent time on american ships. He told me that in training exercises with Nato ,in home waters (the baltic)they regularly beat US anti sub boats.I have no reason not to believe him. There has been a constant preoccupation about US weakness in shallow waters operations. It seems Nuke subs ie hunter killer do not operate well in them ,being too large. By laying passivly on the bottom or against a shelf these deisle subs are just about undetectable.
