If we understood, could we predict and prevent? My quick answer to this is, paradoxically, "yes" on a large scale and "no" on a small scale. On a small scale... Many times you don't even know who/what you will love/hate until confronted with them/it. Therefore, how can you therefore prevent something you don't yet know needs preventing? Heck, I think I know me better than anyone else yet had I written down a year before I met my wife what I thought she would be like I'd have been totally wrong. On a large scale... Everyone at one time or other feels the emotions of rage, anger, hate, etc. It's human nature to often blame others for our problems. Every so often there comes along someone with charisma who is adept at being able to channel hate toward a specific group of people. In such cases, simply "removing" this person can diffuse the situation and prevent death on a mass scale. - Jeff
