Hi zonder; Re: "Honesty rather than trying to excuse a terrible massacre of two civilian cities is much appreciated."

Are you somehow implying that it is disingenuous to condemn other nations' terror tactics when we use them ourselves, when killing civilians is convenient for getting what we want?

Of course. Thank you for this. Honesty rather than trying to excuse a terrible massacre of two civilian cities is much appreciated.

Zonder, I don't believe anyone, let alone myself, have been anything but honest with regard to reason Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed...

Both American and Japanese lives were saved as a result..

But if you are preoccupied about whether the US leadership gave a flying hoot about Japanese casualties, then I would say No... We didn't care.. We certainly didn't care when we killed nearly 1/2 million of them fire-bombing Tokyo and I'd wager it wasn't a big concern in making the decision to obliterate Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

You know, had they possessed the technology, the Japanese government wouldn't have even blinked about nuking US cities. Hell, they were preparing to unleash biological weapons via their balloon bombs.
