I think even defensively it is wrong. I've gotten personal many many moons ago (defensively imo) but I wouldn't do it today, not even defensively. Because I think used any way, it is just wrong. Using it defensively legitimizes it, IMO. And that is something that should not be legitimized.

Well, I guess we disagree. Vipers are nasty things and nasty things often get (and deserve) nasty treatment. I found it a real non-event BUT Poet was good enough to apologize. Ever seen the thread FAL apologize or admit it when clearly wrong about a factual matter? What I might find insulting if directed at say, you, for instance, might be perfectly appropriate when directed at someone else when placed in context. I applaud Poet for her prompt highminded apology. I just don't think it was warranted in this particular case. Context is everything they say.... JLA
