I did not look at it a takeover attempt but rather a possible bid for a significant minority position, (10% or less). But was GG really interested in Placer? Takeovers of juniors that have properties showing promise would seem to make more sense. Would be great if MNG could sell GG a 25% interest in Hope Bay to be earned though bringing the Madrid resources into production by a specified time. Not in favor of just selling them or anyone an interest but a deal that would speed up development would be of interest.

Until one actually tries to buy 20 tonnes one is left having to rely on what the "experts" say. So testing the actual market is not a bad idea, if one really wanted the gold.

But agree, grassroots exploration would be better.
