Even if one believes it could be a hit, flying in a light snow and freezing rain forecast is dumb in my opinion. This is the kind of weather when these types of accidents often occur, but pilots do this kind of thing all the time.

I remember one over Shell Lake. The plane disappeared into the lake. Nobody saw the crash and it was awhile before they even knew what happened to it. I am surprised though that at least one of his two pilots didn't just say no, especially with the wife and kid along too.
