Yes, yes, there are Very Ugly Americans about, and the Apollonians among us don't like to be reminded. We also know how wretchedly short we fall of living up to the values we profess to love, especially when it comes to dealing with "foreigners." However, as I asserted earlier, things are changing fast, thanks in no small part to the Net. Thanks to exchanges on the Net such as the very one we are enjoying here, the ordinary folks here (such as Yours Truly) are being made to see ourselves as others see us. We are being forced to see certain truths about ourselves. In fact, we are having our noses rubbed in it. A lot of us don't like it much, and we squawk defensively about it, but we are coming around -- and a lot faster than you may suppose! Stay tuned. ig
