Playing by the rules?

Excellent article. I cannot imagine anyone summarizing my views on this subject better than Barone has.

If you saw Russert this morning, you saw the Minnesota version in action. While it is a fact they are entitled by law to do what they are doing, the Democrats clearly intend to get a political advantage out of Wellstone's death.

I was highly offended at Carville's obvious politicizing of Wellstone's death -- something Gingrich wasn't about to do. In effect, the Carville position is that it is okay for the Democratic campaign of Mondale to take wholesale potshots at the Republican opposition, but that somehow, due to Wellstone's death, the Republican candidate should not be allowed to so much as mention the name Mondale.

So, even while Republicans are showing genuine respect for Wellstone, the Democrats are loaded for bear attacking the Republican candidate.
