Intel Eyes Russia

MOSCOW (MT) -- U.S. chip maker Intel plans to set up production at a number of
Russian plants, Interfax reported Friday.
The news agency reported Intel's Russian division head, Steve Chase, as saying at a
meeting with Nizhny Novgorod region First Deputy Governor Yury Sentyurin that the
company plans to accumulate shares in Russian enterprises with the appropriate
technical capabilities.
The enterprises are yet to be selected, but Intel usually acquires a 5 percent to 15
percent stake in a partner firm and spends $5 million setting up a production line, he
said.
Intel opened its own software development lab in Nizhny Novgorod in 2000. It also has
a lab in the Nizhny Novgorod region town of Sarov.
