Jim,

What do you think of the mess in Moscow?

Based on the circumstances don't you think the Dems should be allowed to insert a Candidate?

Absolutely. I think it is a difficult circumstance. I object a little to the notion that they go out and pick a replacement candidate, not on the basis of ideology, but rather, on his ability to keep the Senate in Democrat's hands. I'm sure the Democrats are breathing a collective sigh of relief, since Wellstone was have a tough race anyway. Even Minnesota doesn't want extreme liberal representation anymore. Now that they have a little more moderate to run, they'll save the seat.

But my primary objection is the "use" of Wellstone's death for political advantage, like we saw on Meet the Press this morning. Carville demanding that the Republican candidate not campaign for the remainder of the election, while he himself is doing nothing less than campaigning on Meet the Press. It was pretty pathetic, I thought.

I hope it backfires. At Brit Hume pointed out today, Mondale was a huge supporter of the "nuclear freeze", one of the worst foreign policy initiatives ever conceived. I hope the Republican will drive this fact home.
