Roe - diplomat? Err... there are diplomats, and diplomats.
Especially in Jordan.
The Transarabian pipeline (aka "Tapline") was built to transport Saudi (Koweiti and Iraqi) oil to the more friemdly Mediterranean sea. More secure route towards US East-Coast.
As it passes through the heights of Golan <g> there currently is major "activity" there.
Tapline ends in Lebanon (the French client), but as it traverse the unsecure Golan height, it has been emptied 1976.
Israel needs oil, and would prefer Tapline to be diverted (in Jordan <g>) towards Haifa.
I don't know what US would please best (honest).

So, the kind of EU confederation of Israel, Palestine, and Jordan is not as innocent as it appears. IMHO, I have been fooled by the arguments.
After some DD, an possible annexion war by Israel (against terrorism, of course) cannot be excluded.

Nothing simple there in the oilfields.
