As usual, a very good analysis, Tim.

Yes, people act differently in 3d than on SI. I have tried to clarify this in all my posts.

I agree that few if any people are totally able to control their responses. But they can work toward it.

I think SI is and ideal opportunity to practice controlling responses, because everything is written, nothing is said face to face, there are no angry faces to confront, no spitting, no raised hands, no yelling (except capital lettters). So this is the easiest environment to learn to control reactions.

When I was training in the civil rights movement we went through many role plays to teach ourselves how to respond nonviolently to violent actions. I was not as successful at it as some of the other participants, though I did do well enough to be successful in controlling my responses the few times the sit-ins I was in turned ugly. But there were some participants who were really able to actively feel and show love for people even as they were being attacked and beaten. I wasn't capable of that, but some people were.

I think we can have much more control over ourselves than we think we can. Studies are showing that some Eastern mystics really are able to control what in other people are involuntary physical responses -- they are able to control their heart rates, blood pressure, etc. even when put under heavy threat or high stress. It can be done.
