Do you think it is possible that we will approach a threshold where there is a more substantive change on the modern battlefield?

At the end of the day, if a military commander wants to take a position, he will need ground troops firing weapons such as rifles, cannons and grenades to do the job.

I'm not saying that technology won't help in a number of areas--communications, the ability to see at night, radar, stealth, etc.--but at the conclusion of a conflict, it will always be necessary to have troops on the ground securing the population, imposing their will on recalcitrant opponents, taking care of civilians, etc. Technology can assist these functions but it cannot take them over.

The battlefield will always be the same though we might change the way in which we deal with it to some degree.
