as more and more manufacturing jobs are exported overseas, you have to wonder if that number has nowhere to go but down

September 2002 Los Angeles had 579,600 Manufacturing jobs, producing 10% of the manufactured goods produced in America.

Manufacturing jobs in Los Angeles County had reached an all-time peak of 933,700 in 1979 -- a 38% decline over a 23 year period -- or a 1.4% decline per year.

I believe, but do not know, that the percentage of U.S. manufactured goods produced in Los Angeles in 1979 was less than 10%. I suspect that other regions of the U.S. have lost manufacturing jobs to offshore locations more rapidly than Los Angeles.
