Boy are you missing the drift here. The purpose of the company is to sell product, not to meet goals. When the metric system which governs them allows something contrary to this goal to be rewarded it is simplistically put, bad business.

There is no rationale, no explanation, no justification which can alter this simple truth.

And if you ever in a management position and you condone this type of behavior FOR WHATEVER REASON you wish to come up with, you are wrong.
