Firstly, there is no need for the "ruining" bit. I don't believe this is a drama. People are simply trtying to explain what most of us see as obvious. For instance, some people on SI have my phone number. If one of them starts to repeatedly phone and harass my daughter (if there is a daughter here)...do you think they are not going to get a visit from the local sheriff? You may call it "ruining" their life; but perpetrators do not need apologists; they need the stern hand of justice. You seem to be worried about the rights and freedoms of some; why not just pretend that ALL of us have rights and freedoms? A little consistency there would go a long ways...
