The only purpose of those buttons was to temporarily catch the attention of potential customers. In those days, there were no electric light bulbs as in Las Vagas today. The particularly dumb animals in this life are always attracted to something bright or that flashes. Those guys are, of course, the best guys to attract as customers to sell something to. Stock, an idea, whatever.
