SAP Continues to Demonstrate Supply Chain Leadership in Creating Value for High Tech Companies

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct 29, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- SAP AG (SAP) today announced that a growing number of leading high tech companies are implementing mySAP(TM) Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM) to improve productivity, reduce inventories, and lower costs in order to maintain a competitive edge in the market. mySAP SCM allows high tech companies to collaborate with partners to plan and forecast supply and demand, handle direct procurement, manage manufacturing outsourcing, and ensure order fulfillment. This announcement was made at the annual American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) Conference, held October 27-30, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Currently, more than seventy high-tech companies, including Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, LSI Logic, and AMI Semiconductor run mySAP SCM. High tech companies leverage mySAP SCM to manage their complex supply chain issues in business partner collaboration, outsourcing in engineering, manufacturing sales, delivery, and service. Though each customer has a different set of needs, SAP has been able to provide customers with a solution that delivers real-time information about markets, projects, and operational performance to prepare them for shifts in demand, economic conditions, and customer requirements.

HP, a leading global provider of high tech products, selected mySAP SCM to help the company resolve a number of business challenges related to its printer business. These challenges included misaligned supply and demand, long forecasting cycle times, unreliable forecasts, and lengthy planning cycle times. Since going live in November 2000, Hewlett-Packard has reduced cycle times by 50 percent, lowered inventory by 20 percent, lowered outgoing inventory by 30 percent, and reduced forecast cycle time by 50 percent. The company has also taken steps toward an end-to-end supply chain visibility, creating a foundation for the future by planning to build on mySAP SCM with global capacity balancing within the next year.

"In today's changing economic environment, it was important for us to implement a supply chain planning solution that addressed specific business objectives," said Craig Flower, group information officer, Worldwide Operations, Hewlett-Packard. "We wanted to be closer to our customers, improve decision-making processes, and make our supply chain truly collaborative throughout our worldwide operations. We selected SAP because of the company's experience, its ability to deliver exactly the functionality we needed, and the ability of mySAP SCM to grow and evolve with us."
