Online, people can defend themselves for the most part; and they ought to be held accountable for what they say. Derogatory remarks about anyone served at the public table are out of line--the aggrieved party being unable to challenge them. If you were unable to be on SI for some reason, and if people were calling you mentally unstable publicly in a more or less permanent medium...I would "lecture" them, too.
