CNBC's Garrett Lazar interviewed various people at a Target in NJ in order to assess consumer sentiment. The pervasive element in the responses was complaints about rising prices.

Meanwhile various economists are concerned about deflation. I guess their reasoning goes: rising prices lead to declining consumer sentiment which leads to falling final demand which leads to deflation which leads to rising prices which leads to declining consumer sentiment which leads to falling final demand...ad infinitum. Don't tell anyone about that reasoning because it might be submitted for a Nobel Prize.
