Yes, my experience in China is mainly in the major cities -- although nobody calls them "coastal" versus "inland" anymore. That was a distinction that had some relevance ten or fifteen years ago, but not now. I have never been to Tibet and I have not been north or northwest of Beijing. I have never been in the many areas in the north dominated by state owned enterprises that are imploding under there own weight. My experience in the major cities leaves me with an impression that could be considered only half-informed. But the future of China is in those cities and I would still hold the opinion that you can see the outline of the future of the country by being in the major cities.
