And still are.Second, there were no civil liberties Piffle.hird, the only people with a nostalgia for the old system were apparatchiks and their dependents, and pensioners--- about 15 to 20 percent of the population That's not what the voting records say.Fourth, we live in the freest, most prosperous country on earth, and our social problems are comparatively slight Most prosperous, certainly. Freest, no. We have many freedoms, but as to freest, no, I don't think so. Of course we would have to discuss what "freest" means, but with people cowering in their homes in fear, with gated communities springing up all over to separate the wealthy from the nonwealthy, with one of the highest rates of prison populations in the world, with racial and sexual discrimination still a serious social prolem for many, with an economic system that leaves millioins of people behind while some garner levels of wealth far, far beyond any reasonable need, with health care at the greatest level of quality the world has ever known IF you are wealthy or work for a company that provides good insurance, but requires you to go without food to buy your medicines if you are not,I think your statement is questionable. Our social problems may be comparatively slight to you, but they are very much not slight to young black males in our inner cities or to the ill elderly without pensions or savings. There is such a thing as saying you love your country, only to slander it and compare it to a totalitarian dictatorship. I'm surprised to see you taking that stale, discredited old debate tactic. Telling the truth is never slander, as you well know. I made clear that I prefer living here to there. But I also believe that the citizens of all the nations of the world deserve their own rights of security, and that our arrogance as a nation is extreme.
