The fact that people are deceptive does not eliminate them as real entities. The deception it self is also a real event. The deception is connected to the deciever creating an additional forum for the reality. Are men who have two lives (families who know nothing of each other in different cities) unreal? I understand how that is different than what happens on SI but the way that it is similar is that people can have one presentation in one setting that is substantially different than how they present themselves in another. Both are real and both are accountable, IMO.

"That people are not what they appear" People are seldom what they appear to be. It does not make them incapable of harm. The same molester who you allow to babysit your kid because you think him decent might be the same stalker who tries to lure your kid on some teenage chat line. If you talk to the police (I recommend you do) you will find that they emphasize that people are just as dangerous over the phone or emails or letters or bulletin boards as they are face to face. Just as people face to face are not necessarily what they appear to be...neither are people on the phone or on bulletin boards necessarily what they appear to be. Even though anonymous people are not punished for being honest and truthful as face to face people often are (you don't tell your boss to stick anything in a nasty place without repercussions), still even BB people can be deceptive and dishonest. The police will tell you that. There have been many crimes committed by people from internet sites. A good person on the internet is a good person anywhere. And likewise for people who are damaged. They are always so until they get better.
