Matt, Well, I charge $65 per hour, but I only get a solid day a few times per year. Mostly it is small tasks that the local staff cannot handle on small peer to peer office networks with no net admin on staff.

As for Unix/linux admins...thay have fallen from grace these days as evryone puts the screws to IT costs.
Used to be a good man could get $120,K +. not no more.

As long as you can get permission to work, you may be able to get work. Most companies already have someone who does their IT, either in house, or under contract, so you have to break into the arae and that means making cold calls.

Most of what I got came from mining companies, where I installed the netwroks and maintained tham. Several of these have folded, but new ones arise.
Looks for those with money and an expanding office.
