But it has no new source of strength other than its domination of existing structures of power

"Domination of existing power structures" seems like a fine source of strength to me. I'm not holding by breath waiting for this one to pass.

The main problem is that statism, as a meme, is self perpetuating. Libertarianism, which can be define more as the absence of a particular meme, is not. That is why "eternal vigilance" is needed to preserve freedom, but inaction will promote statism.

(A similar thing goes for theism versus atheism. Theists have a meme that is self-reinforcing. Atheists lack that meme, but don't necessarily have a competing meme.)
