If the Wellstone race hadn't been so tight, a hit because of criticism alone might have more weight. It just doesn't make sense to me to make a martyer out of him when a defeat at the polls could have disgraced him.

The only other reason I could think of for a hit would be he had dirt. When you have that kind of dirt, you have 50 envelopes waiting to be sent to 50 newspapers all over the world should anything happen to you if you know what I mean.
