When people pay for any service it is with the intent to use it from time to time. When they use it in a reasonable matter they will then see messages on threads and in their inbox, and they will be compromised emotionally by the knowledge that (unlike the phone) many other strangers have seen it as well. To suggest that people cannot abuse one another on bulletin boards is naive, or simply cunning and evasive. People on SI have reputations (as Neo has said). Many are fairly intimate with one another on ICQ, EMAIL, PM, telephone letters, or personal visits. As in every venue where people interact with one another...there needs to be responsibility, and there needs to be accountability. I don't know if you ever threatened to harass Poet by phone (or did so). I don't know if you ever frightened her with suggestive language (and knowing her address). I only know that there is a line which may be crossed in every venue. It seems like a lot of people thought that Your Eminence came very close to crossing that line. People debated the issue for some time and made the decision independently to either side with you or to condemn your behaviour. My personal response was to condemn your behaviour but to try to keep your person out of it. I thought you behaved like a bad boy; I still do
