Israel has the military power to conquer huge amounts of land, yet they do not. The Jews only wish a small part of their ancestral Holy Land. The Palestinian fighters have been fighting for 50 years, and still without total victory. IMO, because it is not the will of God. IMO, it is the will of God that the land be shared. I understand that the Palestinian fighters are bound by honor, and cannot accept the Israeli demand for a cease-fire, even if the fighters wished for it. I understand that the Israeli’s are at war with those who would kill them, and cannot be stopped from pursuing the most basic of military strategies; to capture or kill as many of the enemy fighters as possible. Because of this, the war continues to destroy. Because the war continues, the President wishes to make an offer of peace to the fighters. Because the Palestinian fighters will never submit to anything that the Jews demand, the President offers the possibility of a cease-fire from a third party who is sincerely concerned with the welfare of the Palestinian people. If the Palestinian fighters desire peace, call for a press conference with the all of the leaders of militant groups in attendance, and announce that that they will accept the Presidents offer of a cease-fire in order to discuss the formation of the country of Palestine. As I have said before, I am firmly convinced that it is the will of God, that all of the children of Abraham live in peace. A continuing impasse is not a surprising result IMO. The Palestinians say they cannot stop the fighting while Israel is still occupying their land. Israeli’s say it would be militarily foolish to withdraw and leave themselves open to more attacks. I believe the Israeli’s have a point on this matter. This is no Arab army that would be foolish enough to allow themselves to be attacked openly, why should the Israeli’s open themselves to the full might of all the Palestinian fighters? I consider this to be a “war” situation, and as such it would normally be up to the Palestinians to call for a cease-fire, because they are in the inferior position from a strictly military point of view. However, because the Palestinian fighters are so tenacious, and there are so many separate groups of militants (armies), Israel may have to take the initiative in bringing about a cease-fire.I believe that because the Israeli’s are united as a single army, Israel should release a statement saying they will completely withdraw from Palestinian lands, if all of the Palestinian fighters publicly announce that they will honor the Israeli cease-fire. I believe the leaders of the Palestinian fighters could do this at a single large press conference. If Chairman Arafat allows Palestinian Authority TV to broadcast an Israeli offer, it will prove if he is either incapable, or unwilling to unite the fighters. IMO, once a cease-fire is in place, Ministers and delegates to the peace conference can immediately begin discussing the Arab League peace plan. IC
