What has me attracted to bio _ not the $3 numbers but the real companies _ is the fact that something like 200 drugs come off-patent in the next 3 years, and Bush _ and the Democrats _ want cheaper generic versions ASAP.
Generics are a low margin business, so although they would benefit, I think the greater reward will be in anything new that can enjoy patent protection.
So, the bios, which used to go panhandling to the big drug companies for any cash they could get, are going to be paid a premium for anything different enough to enjoy broad patent protection.
Gates has a stake in ICOS, which is getting close to having an actual product (PFE is throwing a fit) and it's my understanding that Dell has helped fund some start-ups.
Interesting area. BLUD has been hot, I expect more to come.
