Steve,

You ignored the point I was making. You didn't need to take a shot at me. The Wellstones paid thousands into the SSA and their children will more than likely get only a $200.00 payment for each deceased parent. Don't they deserve a little more from our government for their parents' contributions to SSA or is it just their bad luck?

It would have been nice to have some of their SS contributions set aside for their children. The SS system is helpful to many, but is abused by many as well. SSI and SSD benefits are paid out to thousands who work under the table. There has to be a better way to deliver financial aid and care of those who truly need help if they are disabled or elderly and unable to work. The SS tax is a regressive tax on individual taxpayers.
