Jay, my hot button is these damn low interest rates!

I'm in a mixed mood today because I was just notified of another large chunk of money coming into a trust account I manage. Nice to see the money, but tough to decide what to do with it. This is an intermediate-term low-risk type of account, so I can't invest in exotic things like CDMA and yen-denominated fertilizer plants. Mutter, mutter.

Thanks Jay. I'm going to let the opportunity go by again. I'm inclined to agree that it's a great opportunity, but I'm comfortable enough as is and I remain cautious about the proposition.

I see that the new Japanese finance guy is talking of taking over the banks. I see unemployment at record levels in Japan [only ~5% but a record]. Nikkei at 20 year lows. US$ vs Yen at a yen lowish level.

I saw bankruptcies in Hong Kong are at record levels [or maybe it was just 3 x the rate of a year ago].

There is quite a lot going on!

New Zealand is booming. It's crazy. Building everywhere I look. People spending flat out. Unemployment at 20 year lows. Tourists having a nice time and spending. We had a decade of crunching after the 1987 mayhem so missed the 1990s boom completely, at which time we had a high dollar vs US$, Yen, Pound etc.

Meanwhile, your gold is shining...
