the pulitzer prize winning author edmund morris, who spent a lot of time with reagan while he was in office and wrote the famous biography of the president "dutch", has stated on several occasions that there was no indication of alzheimers while reagan was in office.

reagan was advanced in age, and under a heavy workload and stress load of being president. it would not be unreasonable for him to suffer a memory lapse here and there. that doesn't translate into alzheimers. you could find all sorts of presidents making gaffes who have never been diagnosed with alzheimers.
