I don't believe there is anything wrong in bringing up politics at a memorial service for a man that spent most of his life in public service. I don't, either; and as I indicated, I do think the Republicans might have done THAT much. But to turn it into a political convention, complete "except for the balloon drop", is a bit much, even though it WAS Wellstone's own son leading the cheer. As for your statement that the Republicans having a memorial service under the same circumstances and not talking about the vision of the deceased, you're delirious. Could you cite EVEN ONE example of a Republican funeral where politics played EVEN A FRACTION of the role they did in Wellstone's? Even ONE example, EVEN a FRACTION? I don't think so. As for your "standard liberal response", I am neither liberal nor conservative by definition. I don't know what your politics are -- while you're clearly "liberal leaning", it is also clear to me that you are honest and reasoned in your statements on this thread. I don't find that in the other liberals (who are more extreme) on this thread. I'm not a conservative on many issues. I just cannot stand lying, cheating, fraud, and deception. And I find the Republicans, while I don't agree with many of their positions, do not generally lie, cheat, defraud, and deceive. There ARE exceptions, but they are rare compared with the Democrats. I'll sacrifice my views on such issues as abortion, guns, etc., for some fiscal responsibility and truth.
