Does this mean that you think that the dictionary is exhaustive? I actually maintained that you were right, considering the minimal definition of conscience, but that Jewel had something if we considered conscience more fully as entailing moral reasoning. It is a commonplace to consider moral reflection to take place in the conscience, so it is neither remote nor arbitrary, nor is it incompatible with the dictionary definition, it merely fills it out.
