JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Reuters) --
Bombings in South Africa revived the specter of right-wing militancy not seen since apartheid collapsed and Nelson Mandela became president in 1994.

White extremists have moved increasingly into the limelight over the past year, as police uncovered a series of alleged plots to overthrow the black-led government by stirring up racial hatred.

If the blasts that rocked Soweto on Wednesday prove to be the work of such groups -- as President Thabo Mbeki and the national police chief have suggested -- it would be the first time their plans have been put into action.

Disagree. Soldiers have guns and if captured they are prisoners. Except if captured by arab soldiers working for iraq then they are hostages.
