"What if" games are called thinking ahead. i've got a what if for you. what if israel had been a true ally and warned us about 9/11 ahead of time? We were given general warnings that some type of attack was coming by intelligence agencies of several countries including Israel and Germany. Specific information - like when, how, what airlines - which would have been needed to prevent the 9-11 attack was likely only held by a small number of people within Al Qaeda. It's likely that even a majority of the hijacking teams didn't know the specifics of when and where until just before the attack. If you recall Mohammed Atta, who has been identified as a key player in the attack, had once attempted to buy a crop dusting plane and asked questions about whether extra tanks could be attached. This is evidence that at that time - when the attackers were already here in the country and getting flight training, the specifics of the attack were still being worked out.
