CHICAGO -- Solid weekly export sales helped grain and soybean futures post gains Thursday in early activity on the Chicago Board of Trade. Soybeans rose the most, boosted by stronger-than-expected weekly sales figures. Dry weather in prime growing areas of Brazil also stoked buying interest. Corn climbed nearly as high, benefiting from respectable if unspectacular export sales numbers. Wheat advanced slightly, helped by buying in the neighboring trading pits. Export sales figures were in line with expectations. Wheat for December delivery rose 2 1/4 cents to $4.09 a bushel; December corn rose 2 1/2 cents to $2.48 1/2 a bushel; December oats rose 1 1/2 cent to $2.06 1/2 a bushel, and November soybeans rose 6 cents to $5.63 a bushel. Beef futures declined while pork futures increased in early trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. December live cattle fell .20 cent to 72.17 cents a pound; November feeder cattle fell .18 cent to 81.62 cents a pound; December lean hogs rose .57 cent to 42.67 cents a pound, and February pork bellies rose .45 cent to 78.70 cents a pound.
