As it is, they see Sy Stallone as the stereotype American, especially his earlier characters like Rocky - muscled, well-meaning but not very gifted in the grey-cell department, nor really cultured or profound in his thoughts or motives.

Which would be pretty indicative of someone that is not "very gifted in the grey-cell department" considering Rocky (Rocky I - the one Sly movie that I can think of that isn't terrible) is about a poor working class Philadelphia Italian-American guy whose one gift is fighting. That's like watching Saturday Night Fever and deducing that Americans are ne'er-do-well creatures of vanity that dance real well. :)

If Europeans don't "get" Rocky I, then I can understand why they wouldn't "get" Americans, however.
