Long term is still a guess.

There I'll agree with you, but the roadmap for IA-64 is looking fairly strong in light of I2 performance.

Granted, commercial success isn't always guaranteed, even when you have the highest-performing chip a very attractive price point (especially considering there is an architecture change involved).

Seems like the entire market has been one massive disappointment. Why is Itanium being singled out?
